WhatsApp has nice features and keeps bringing more on board. One of these many features on WhatsApp is the “Unsend Message” feature. This gives you the ability to delete a text you sent, even when the recipient has seen it. For me, it is sometimes annoying not to know whatever the person wrote. It’s not a good feeling for me knowing that I missed something. I personally feel it’s impolite, but hey, individual differences. But if you’re like me who would want to read these deleted WhatsApp messages, then here you go.
Before we continue you can check if your device is on the list of phones that won’t support WhatsApp anymore in the coming years.
When WhatsApp released this feature, Android geeks endeavoured to find ways to counter this and boom, everything is possible. They found ways to read the messages even after the sender had deleted them.
This trick on Android smartphones is made possible with the help of the Notification Log. This Notification Log is an Android feature so there is no need to go download third party apps on Play Store.
How to read deleted WhatsApp messages
Remember this is done locally with Android’s own features – no downloads!
- Go to anywhere on the Home Screen on your Android phone.
- Tap and hold an empty space on the Home Screen area.
- System icons will appear on the screen.
- Tap widgets, and locate the Settings widget on the list.
- Now, tap and hold the Settings widget and drag it anywhere on the home screen.
- This will make a list of available options appear on the screen.
- Now scroll through and select Notification Log.
Now with you able to access the Notification Log, all you need to do is to tap the new Settings icon on the Home Screen. Tapping this new Settings icon will show your past Android notifications and also the deleted WhatsApp messages which were displayed as notifications.
The downside of trick is people can only read those deleted WhatsApp messages which they have interacted with. For example, if a receiver taps or swipe an incoming notification or see the message by visiting the app. If you don’t see the text before it got deleted then Notification Log can’t help you.
Other ways you can get to read deleted WhatsApp messages is by the use of third-party apps. You have download such apps from the Google Play Store. One of these Android apps is Notification History. Another method to retrieve deleted messages is by utilising the WhatsApp Chat backup feature.
As I said at the beginning, I’m not excited when missed stuff, it just doesn’t go down well with me. I must know and understand everything that goes on around me. Maybe, you might not that type of person, then you wouldn’t need to worry about this.
