Pastor Solomon Lamo Latiff is threatening to sue Suntreso Government Hospital after his wife perished along with her unborn child after being denied entry to labour ward for not being able to pay GHC500.00 “doctor motivation fee”.
According to media reports, the 30-year-old pregnant woman, Angela Afriyie Agyemang, had visited the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi on Wednesday, 4 July 2018 to deliver but the health worker at post refused her entry into the labour ward because her husband could not immediately pay a GHC500 ‘Doctor Motivation Fee’.
The husband of the deceased, Pastor Solomon Lamo Latiff of the House of Faith Ministry in Kumasi, narrating the incident to Accra-based Class FM said that his wife later died at the theatre just after he had made available the GHC500 fee because she had been denied medical attention.
He said that he had taken his wife to the hospital the previous day when she started experiencing labour pangs after her due date exceeded by a week.
On arrival at the health facility, one Dr Sarpong then informed him that a Caesarean Section (CS) was to be done but he had to pay GHC500 doctor motivation fee first.
He therefore had to go in search for the amount to ensure the process is done on her but just after he had made available the money his wife who had been left unattended to passed away
Pastor Agyemang said he intends suing the hospital for medical negligence, since, according to him, the hospital allowed several other women in labour into the theatre while his wife was kept sitting in a wheelchair for over three hours due to his inability to immediately pay the GHS500 ‘Doctor Motivation Fee’.
